With Chicago’s reopening of the sports and creative industries, normal life doesn’t seem so far away anymore. We thought this was the perfect opportunity to put together a diverse list of events and activities for you to pick and choose from next month. This list isn’t exhaustive but gives you a great overview of how hard people have been hustling backstage to provide innovative choices. There is a general awareness and empathy among everybody regarding how each and every one of us experienced COVID-19 and 2020 in general.
Celebrating Women’s History Month
A whole month to celebrate women’s contributions to history, culture, society, and more means that Chicago’s institutions, museums, and universities have a plethora of events in store for you. We won’t list them all but, CPL, for example, is hosting a wide variety of virtual and in-person experiences for all ages. From educational workshops to games; exhibits to reading recommendations you’re promised a full dance card! If you don’t feel like going out, surround yourself with good company and host a casual evening to celebrate women in your own life. You can also join this year’s International Women’s Day virtual conversation and theme: #ChooseToChallenge to discuss and share stories.
This immersive exhibit celebrates and explores expressions identity and perspectives through visual and physical (very Instagrammable) capsules. The 5-floor space offers a swell of rooms and installations meant to rouse dialog, excitement, discovery, and more. Originally set to end with the closing of March, tickets have been extended through April!
Theater for One: Here We Are streaming from Court Theater until March 14
Court Theater presents a unique and intimate virtual experience from the comfort of your own home. These eight new microplays are in tune with the current political climate and movements and are here to give an immersive and raw digital theatrical experience from the actor to the audience. Tickets are free and each reservation lasts between 15 to 30 minutes. We recommend reading the story behind this creative theatrical concept here.
Replay Lincoln Park is the host of honor this March with its themed celebration of one of America’s fave quarantine pastimes, watching Schitt’s Creek. The pop-up cafe and event space offers a myriad of scenes and sets to take snaps against, merch to wear on your way out, and of course, a faux Rose Apothecary that sells a handful of artisanal items supplied by Chicago locals! Tickets available through March 31st.
Immersive Van Gogh Chicago
One of the most anticipated immersive art experiences has arrived in Chicago, the Van Gogh Gogh exhibit is here to stay…for a little longer! This March, get out of the house and head to the Germania Club and experience a legendary artist in a brand new way. This is the perfect family-fun, day date, or solo adventure – basically perfect for all, and with it being enclosed makes it weather-proof for Chicago’s unpredictable Spring season.
Kofi Moyo and FESTAC ’77: The Activation of a Black Archive until March 21
The Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts’ stand-out exhibition is one you won’t want to miss. Karega Kofi Moyo, a Chicago-based photojournalist’s important narrative of Black liberation and cultural production during the 1960s and 1970s paired with modern interpretations from students from the University of Chicago is what makes this exhibition timeless. Don’t miss out!
It’s back, it’s back! Chicago’s top immersive museum that hosts a clockwork of themed exhibits is back open this March and welcoming guests with Covid-precautions intact. Experience art in a fun, involved, and modern way!
Marvel’s Universe of Super-Heroes
Calling all hero-fanatics! This March head to Chicago’s Museum of Chicago + Industry for this undoubtedly highly demanded exhibition. Starting Sunday, March 7th the museum welcomes ticketed attendees to experience over 80 years of the world’s most iconic and beloved superheroes with the likes of Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Hulk. You’ll be able to see over 300 pieces of artifacts from movie sets and more. Grab your tickets quick!
Michelle Obama’s new culinary kids show, ‘Waffles and Mochi’ debuts March 16th
Impersonating a friendly supermarket owner, our favorite Chicago native embarks on a world-wide culinary trip with friends Waffles and Mochi who dream of one day becoming professional chefs. This 10 20-minute episode series is exactly the new kid-friendly distraction the tired parent in you has been waiting for.
Bank of America’s Shamrock Shuffle – March 19th through 21st
This year, Chicago, unfortunately, will not be welcoming back its annual run but is now a 2-day virtual event. Participants can opt-in for an 8k run, 2-mile walk, or The Mile. Race in green with your own micro-groups and communities. You can still register for a bib-number and even offer a printable finish line to greet you at the end of your run, walk, or trot!
The Cubs open their 146th season against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field
Last but certainly not least, the Cubs open MLB’s 2021 season at home on April 1st.
