We’re in the throes of Chicago winter, and that usually means everyone’s got heaters and fireplaces on full blast. Unfortunately, warm air also means dry air; so besides moisturizing whenever possible, it also makes sense to run a humidifier.  But which one to get? We’ve poured over the Amazon reviews and also asked some friends for tips!

We had to lead with the big one; well, it’s actually not large in size but it’s the humidifier with a near-universal appeal on Amazon. Over ten thousand people have taken the time out to review this thing, and pretty much everyone says good things about it. It’s easy to fill, easy to use, lasts a long time, and it’s fairly quiet. 

The only negatives come from the blue LED light the unit emits when it’s on; some people don’t like sleeping with blue lights, evidently.

Sharp Air Plasmacluster Air Purifier, KC850U

We have no idea why it’s called the Plasmacluster, but there’s a good chance it has to do with the fact that these cost north of three hundred dollars. Yep, this is the air purifier/humidifier for the high rollers. Of course, this article is titled ‘the best humidifiers money can buy,’ so here it is! The Ferrari of humidifiers. It’s quiet, it’s nice, it’s fancy. If you’re feeling it, treat yourself! It even claims to neutralize Coronavirus particles. Seriously.

Aqua Oasis Cool Mist Humidifier

Here’s one more; this one’s smaller in size…but can humidify a whole night and into the morning. It doesn’t cost a lot and is (at least according to many reviewers) rather quiet. So this one is our pick for the bedroom. It also has no shortage of fans; over 36,000 people have reviewed it positively on Amazon.
