Original Soul Vegetarian, Greater Grand Crossing
When eating vegan, original, delicious soul food is often missing. Sure, you can eat tacos and vegan pizza… but no sloppy joe sandwiches for you! Not to worry, though, because Original Soul Vegetarian has you covered. You can get your coveted sloppy joe, or a meat-free gyro. The service matches the excellent food, too, with smiling employees who are always willing to answer your questions.
Kal’ish, Uptown
The best veggie burgers in Chicago, hands down! The nachos are definitely worth a taste, too. You’ll want to try everything on the menu, and that includes dessert. Whether you’re feeling cookies or cake, you’ll have plenty to try.

Handlebar, Wicker Park
We can personally vouch for the chili mac and fried avocado tacos at Handlebar. Daily specials make this restaurant a hot spot, along with their desserts, which often feature the creations of Chicago’s famed vegan baker, Pie Pie My Darling.
Kitchen 17, Lake View
Swoon! Order the cauliflower wings or nachos to start, then the “Big K burger” or gyro. Be sure to check out the artwork on the walls– it changes weekly, and is usually created by an employee. Our personal favorite: the vegan deep dish.

Chicago Diner, Multiple Locations
You know Chicago Diner, and you probably love every single thing on their menu. Stop in for dinner, then order one of their milkshakes. Our faves? The carrot cake shake or peanut butter chocolate. Truly incredible.
Veggie Grill, Multiple Locations
Veggie Grill recently came to Chicago, and is quickly expanding. With two locations already open, two more will join the Chicago restaurant scene this year.

No Bones Beach Club, Wicker Park
“Crab” cakes and sesame ginger wings to share, but keep the Jackfruit Flautas for yourself. Don’t forget their “Dranks”… they’re a delight!

Vegan Thai cuisine… what more could you ask for?! Another rare find, Urban Vegan has vegan Asian cuisine worth drooling over.
