The Best Places To See Christmas Lights in Chicago

If you’re in need of a little extra cheer, there’s no better way than to visit the sights of festive lights this holiday season! While there are numerous neighborhoods, boulevards, and parks to drive through, we’ve created a quick hit list for your viewing pleasure. Most of these displays will last until New Year’s Eve. Some of the light displays this year offer the option to enjoy the lights from the comfort of your own car! Stay safe, stay warm, and be merry.

The famous home in Logan Square dubbed as ‘The Christmas House’, is a favorite for many. Unfortunately, the owner of the home, Frank Lopez passed away recently. However, his family has luckily continued the tradition this holiday season. Children are so fond of the home that they even drop off their letters to Santa in hopes of them being delivered. Frank Lopez is said to have even responded to a few over the years!

This Lincoln Park favorite remains so for a reason. Bring the kids to wander around the zoo or enjoy a late-night, adults-only evening. Hot chocolate and mulled wine are available for purchase.  A Charlie Brown Christmas tribute concert from the Chris White Trio will also be played on a few of the evenings. $5 entry fee per person.

Located on 2 acres of land on Goose Island. Come grab a drink and pick out a Christmas tree while taking in the holiday displays. Take this opportunity to visit the only evergreen tree trail in downtown Chicago. This pop-up is from the same group that brought you Jack’s Pumpkin Pop-up.

The Morton Arboretum has taken precautions this year, so guests are able to experience the full glory of the eco-friendly, two miles of decked out lights from the safety of their cars. The park’s hours are staying open a bit longer than usual as well. Also, for guests experiencing the lights from the safety of their own cars, there is an option to listen to a soundtrack that is available through the car radio.

If you weren’t able to watch the live stream of the 45-foot-tall blue spruce being lit up in Millennium Park you will still be able to visit. Don’t forget to plan ahead of time and look up information on how to enter/exit the park to visit the tree.

If you’d prefer to stay in your car and enjoy the lights, consider the 1 million LED light show at Northbrook Court.

The Chicago Botanic Garden is giving us a reason to visit the forest preserve after dark! Walk down a 1-mile path to see a group of trees that “sing” songs as well as a 110-foot tunnel, not to mention numerous other light displays.

Whether you’d like to explore the suburbs or the city for your fix of holiday cheer, the organizers of these events have taken it upon themselves to create ways to keep everyone safe. Whether in your car or on foot with a limited number of people, plan ahead of time to ensure a very merry outing!
