FGR’s Guide to Festivals in July

With the madness and celebration of July comes plenty of opportunities to eat delicious food, spend time in the outdoors, and hang out with friends and family. These festivals are a wonderful way to do all three, and maybe sneak a few craft beers or refreshing cocktails in there, too.

Taste of River North, July 20 – 22
Prepared to feed all appetites, this awesome fest is right along the Chicago river and provides food from dynamic restaurants, refreshing beverages of every kind, and exciting entertainment for all. Ward Park, 630 N Kingsbury St, $5 Suggested Donation

BenFest, July 20 – 22
Named one of the “Best Family Fests” by the Chicago Tribune, this fest is three days of fun for everyone. Great bands, yummy cuisine from local restaurants, and plenty of children’s activities make this a great option for your weekend! Northcenter Leavitt St from Irving to Byron, $5 Donation

Sheffield Music Fest & Garden Walk, July 21 – 22
Fawn over the homes and gardens of many and take a self-guided tour of more than 80 gardens, or a guided architectural tour. With live entertainment from epic bands and performers, food and beverages from local vendors, and activities for kids, there’s something for everyone! 2200 N Sheffield Ave, $7 – $10 Tour Donations

Chicago Craft Beer Festival, July 21 – 22
You know you were hooked as soon as you saw “craft beer”. Illinois is home to more than 300 of the nation’s 4,000 plus microbreweries, and you can taste brews from several of those breweries at this fest. 2200 N Sheffield Ave, $35 – $45

Fiesta del Sol, July 26 – 29
In the heart of Pilsen, this fest is the largest Latino festival in the midwest! Featuring some of the best tacos, tamales, and tostadas in town, this four-day family friendly event draws over one million people per year and fuels local businesses. 1000-1600 W Cermak, Free Admission

Wicker Park Fest, July 27 – 29
Excellent music, food, and culture can be found here! Grab a group of friends and enjoy your weekend at this fun festival. Since it’s sponsored by Goose Island, you know it’ll be a good time.  Milwaukee Ave between Ashland & North, $10 Donation

Bantu Fest, July 28
In its 4th year, this fest brings together over 30 countries and culture in celebration of diversity, unity, and love. Enjoy a large variety of foods, arts, music, dancing, and plenty more. An inexpensive and exciting way to spend a Saturday! Midway Plaisance, 60th St and Ellis Ave, Free Admission

Taste of Lincoln Avenue, July 28 – 29
Easier to navigate than a festival by a similar name in the Loop, you can sample foods, desserts, and beverages of all kinds while jamming out to great music. Children can enjoy the Kids’ Carnival inside the fest, too! Lincoln Park, Lincoln Ave and Fullerton Ave, Free Admission, suggested $10 donation
