We all know that Chicago residents are never short on things to do, or beautiful architecture and scenic city and lake views to see. With 77 neighborhoods, there are endless sights to see around every corner. One of the best parts about living in a vibrant “small” big city is that everything you need is nearby— from nightlife, to grocery stores, to some of the country’s best restaurants. Here are a few of my favorite Chicago neighborhoods that take the cake for awesome scenery, convenience, and accessibility.
West Loop
If you’re a self-proclaimed foodie, then Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood is a dream come true. It is home to Restaurant Row, Fulton Market District, and many Michelin-star restaurants— all within close proximity to the many residences in the neighborhood. After just a 10 minute stroll, you’ll pass renowned restaurants like BomboBar, Au Cheval, Girl and the Goat, Nobu and so many more.
Wicker Park
When you think of Wicker Park, some words that come to mind may be hip, trendy, eclectic, and everything in between. This neighborhood is paradise if you don’t want to get in a car or bus to go to your favorite bar, restaurant, theater, or cafe. You can find all of these and more around almost every corner of Wicker Park! If you’re looking to stray away from the bustling streets, you can walk or ride along the 606, a former railway that has been transformed into a beautiful trail full of public art and greenery.
Lincoln Park
Scenic may not be enough to describe this upbeat, nature-filled neighborhood of Chicago. I consider Lincoln Park as a top-notch maneuverable neighborhood because it’s home to an abundance of lakefront trails, lush parks, the Nature Boardwalk, Lincoln Park Zoo, beautiful historic homes, and tons of shopping. Living or staying in Lincoln Park means that whether you want to immerse yourself in nature, see stunning views of the lake, attend a concert or hit up your favorite shops, they’re all a short distance away.
River North
Nightowls, rejoice! River North has all the stops for fun and exciting nightlife. A night out in this lively Chicago neighborhood will allow you to ditch the taxi between bars like Three Dots and a Dash, TAO, The Bassment, and more. During the day, you can take a scenic stroll along the Riverwalk, discover some of Chicago’s most iconic architecture, or explore the many interesting art and design galleries.
West Town
If you’re looking for more of a laid-back scene, Chicago’s West Town neighborhood has you covered. West Town is the best of both worlds— an easy promenade down more tranquil streets with museums and antique shops, or take the more boisterous route with fun taprooms and bars. What makes West Town great is the ample amount of art and culture to see while heading past almost any block; they even host the West Town Art Walk festival every year!
