Old Town Ale House @ 219 W. North Ave
An Old Town staple, the bar’s walls are covered in portraits painted by owner Bruce Elliot. Since opening in 1958, Old Town Ale House has been a favorite of popular comedians, including Chris Farley.
Alice’s Lounge @ 3556 W Belmont Ave.
Ready to karaoke late into the early morning? Alice’s is where you want to be. Karaoke runs from 11 pm to 4 or 5 am, but get there early to get your song request in. Owner Alice Boron has been running the bar since going into business with her family in 1986.
Bernice’s Tavern @ 3238 S. Halsted St.
This hidden gem in Bridgeport is a local favorite, and for good reason. Wednesdays feature Stingo: a weekly Bingo game hosted by owner Steve Badauskas. Add open mic nights, weekly trivia, and reasonably priced drinks, and we can’t think of anywhere we’d rather be.
Nisei Lounge @ 3439 N Sheffield Ave.
Known for its creative use of Malort, this dive bar is just steps away from Wrigley Field and proudly proclaims its title as the oldest bar in Wrigleyville. A dart board, pool table, and giant Jenga will keep you entertained late into the night.
L&L Tavern @ 3207 N. Clark St.
This Lakeview constant was named one of the best dive bars in the nation. Dig a little deeper, and you’ll discover it’s also been called the creepiest bar in the USA, thanks to rumored visits from serial killers Jeffrey Dahmer and John Wayne Gracy. Either way, the beer is cheap.
Chipp Inn @ 832 N Greenview Ave
Built in 1897, the place hasn’t changed much since then. Cheap beer keeps West Town locals coming back night after night. If you like drinking on folding chairs, this is where you want to be.
