Living in Algonquin, IL

Algonquin is a Chicago suburb located in mostly McHenry County, but there is also a smaller portion of it that’s found in part of Kane County, Illinois. The village is about 40 miles to the northwest of Chicago and has a population that tops 29,000 residents. Once a place known for its summer homes and outdoor recreation, growth in Algonquin significantly kicked off starting in the 1980s, and the village is now home to several major shopping malls, with many retailers and restaurants along the Randall Road corridor, independent businesses in the Old Town District, plus the Algonquin Corporate Campus and Algonquin Industrial Park. For commuters, there is Metra service from nearby Crystal Lake to Chicago. Several area schools are part of Community Unit School District 300, as well as Consolidated School District 158.
